Apr. 10th, 2006 09:58 pmWhile this may be off-topic, OH MY GOD Kyle.
OMG KYLE.
KYLE! Kyle in his uber woobie-cuteness and this new way-too-awesome-way-too-good-to-be-true development, especially in relation to Ephram (since we all know that Kyle = Ephram)
Actually, Kyle being gay can bring up all sorts of interesting things to explore in Ephram's character. Ephram obviously sees the parallel between himself and Kyle, and for him to be so twitchy about it makes me wonder if he's still struggling with some issues. Obviously, there's also the whole Madison-factor, but Ephram was still unusually twitchy about it.
I really enjoyed Ephram and Reed's discussion about sexuality - it was solid and it really does get the message across to the millions of teenagers watching the show. (And I'm sort of kind of cheating on my OTP of life, B/E, but lately, R/E's been having amazing interaction. We really need more Ephram/Bright interaction. Because Reed/Ephram interaction is cute and Ephram/Kyle interaction makes me squeal, but nothing will ever ever beat B/E.)
I hope this isn't going to be like the cheap is-he-or-is-he-not thing with Reed. We need a gay character on the show. But they really shouldn't have Kyle have a crush on Ephram because, uh, incest much? Ephram is pretty much Kyle's father figure, and while I am all in favor of siblingcest, father/son incest is kind of creepy, especially given that Ephram/Kyle is meant to parallel Andy/Ephram.
Hey, maybe the kid Rose and Harold adopts will be gay and they can spend next season being cute together and stuff. Probably not though. They'll probably have him fall for Amy or Hannah and Kyle'll pine for him for a while and then Hannah and Bright will break up and Hannah'll date the new kid, except eventually Bright and Hannah'll get back together, because as we all know, B/H is second only to E/A in Everwood canon.
So uh...any opinions on this new development in Everwood? Or am I just making a big deal out of a minor character?

Date: 2006-04-13 05:03 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm really not hating Bright/Hannah as much as I thought I would. Okay, yeah, so Hannah pulling an Amy*, and the writers are desperately digging for conflict so the relationship remains interesting** and that's really pissing me off, but sometimes they're just so cute together.
Bright/Ephram/Hannah anyone? Amy can go find Madison or something.Ephram gets twitchy when it comes to sexuality, so who knows? I doubt the writers of EW will give him a prettypretty boyfriend, but you know, there's Bright.***
Whatever happened to Wendall? Did he die and nobody bothered to tell anybody?*Pulling an Amy - when you're with the sweetest, greatest guy ever who may or may not be your soulmate and you constantly look for the most ridicious problems to fight over. (See Everwood season 3, Everwood season 4)
**Okay, yeah, E/A and canon!B/H might be the most boring thing ever.
***Now B/E would make an interesting canon pairing. And I'm not bias at all. *coughs* No really. Imagine a show where it's just Bright and Ephram doing stupid things together. It would be awesome. Bickering is already such a nature part of their relationship, the writers don't have to worry about creating "too much" conflict, nor do they have to dig up conflict so they're not too boring to watch.**** The show can be renamed "the Adventures of Captain Bright and Ephramboy" or something.
****Ha! It's a footnote inside a footnote. *coughs* Pulling an Amy.

Date: 2006-04-11 02:29 pm (UTC)Maybe just Kyle's wet dreams about his piano teacher...Nothing that Ephram will ever now about.
Or a B/E fic where Bright gets jealous over Ephram after he gets to know about Kyle's confession about his sexuality.
I wouldn't mind even some E/R...God, I'm really longing for some slash fic on Everwood...
What about Kyle/Wendall
But I'm not that desperate XD!

Date: 2006-04-13 05:09 pm (UTC)Well, there's going to be some issues with that for a while, but they need more characters on the show. >_>;; E/A is only interesting for so long. Ugh, I can't stand Amy at all this season. (Or, you know, in any of the previous seasons. *coughs*)

Date: 2006-04-14 03:05 am (UTC)Also, about the incest issue. As I'm constantly arguing with my best friend Shiro, incest really only applies to blood relations. He & I are best friends, and often refer to each otehr as siblings. Everyone tells us we should date each other, but we don't want to screw up the relationship, like Ms. Amy the Prima-donna bitch queen. ;-) Sometimes friendships that start out familial can often turn romantic. And sometimes those are the most stabile & passionate romances in history. While Kyle currently sees Ephram as a father/big brother-type figure, it would be normal human behaviour for his feelings to change, and possibly evolve into smoochy ones. And while Ephram sees Kyle as the little kid/little brother he has to protect and mentor, something could happen to change Kyle in his eyes, causing his o develop woobie feelings. It also goes the other way. Sometimes you can have a crush on someone, but after a lot of time with them, you realize you care for them more in a familial way.
Also, there is no reason fanfiction needs to resemble canon in any respect, lol.

Date: 2006-04-14 09:22 pm (UTC)The father figure thing does squick me a bit, but doesn't keep me from hoping for some K/E. I was so hoping this week's show would be about Kyle having a crush on Ephram. That entire conversation in the parking lot, I was thinking, "Kiss him! Kiss him!" I can't help it. They're weaved into my brain. My E/A loving brain. Oh my.

Word. GAH!
Besides, he has two huge advantages over past gay characters in Berlantiland:
* Unlike Carl, he actually gives us reason to care what happens to him.
* Like Colin and unlike, oh, say, Jack on DC, he has an emotion. Or two. He has a personality. There's a "there" there.
So please, please, powers that be, keep him around!
Ephram obviously sees the parallel between himself and Kyle, and for him to be so twitchy about it makes me wonder if he's still struggling with some issues. Obviously, there's also the whole Madison-factor, but Ephram was still unusually twitchy about it.
Well, he once mentioned that he used to get stuffed into lockers at his private school in New York, which is probable to the point of cliche for a scrawny kid who's not only unathletic and artistic (or in Farside terms, "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal") but mouthy. Whoever gave him the "Welcome to the L.I., bitch" treatment also undoubtedly called him by the favo(u)rite epithet of bullies all across the continent, chosen for its implied assault on the target's manhood. So he could be gay-friendly and still hypersensitive to stereotyping motivated by homophobia -- especially if he was once on the receiving end. So to speak.
Besides, isn't twitchy Ephram's middle name? Especially when he thinks he has someone to protect?
But yeah, I would've expected him to be a bit more "yeah, and?" up front.
Or am I just making a big deal out of a minor character?
Minor characters don't have to stay that way. At least we can hope.
Ah, Kyle. *swoons*
